More Study Abroad

October 2, 2007
We got to sleep in today!!! It was a pretty relaxing day. We went to the Accademia Gallery first which is where Michelangelo’s ‘David’ is, along with some of his unfinished sculptures. There was also an exhibit of old musical instruments which was interesting.

Next, we went to a bridge overlooking the city. The water under the bridge was super gross and I thought the view OF the bridge was better than the view FROM the bridge.

After that we went to the Uffizzi Museum. It is huge! (35 rooms) I didn’t think some of the paintings were very pleasing to the eye, but I guess it was the style back then. The Uffizzi is most famous for Botticelli’s paintings - ‘Primavera’ and ‘Birth of Venus.’ But if you read the history, etc. behind some of the other paintings they’re interesting also.

We went to the baptistry next to the Duomo where the Doors of Paradise are. They’re not the original doors, but still, they depict scenes from the Old Testament.

For the rest of the day we just had free time so everyone went shopping at the Flea Market. I bought nothing. It was fun to walk around and see everything though. We got kababs for dinner...lamb’s meat! Ahh! I didn’t know it was lambs meat until after I ate it, but it was good?!

**Let the record show I bought a converter so my blow dryer and straightener would work in Europe...neither of them did! That hat (pictured above) was basically a life-saver! It will be making several more appearances.
