House Update

I've had a few people ask about how our house is coming...the answer is, it's coming.
There's paint on the walls. The wood floor is in. The cabinets have been installed.
On the To Do list: tile, finish paint, carpet, plumbing and light fixtures installed, granite...
We have to be out of our apartment a week from Monday, but no, our house will not be finished by then. We will live with Kory's parents for a while and hopefully be in our new house by Christmas!
Here's a sneak peek of the kitchen...
[Please ignore the dusty wood floor, it's killing me not being able clean it. Kory says it will just get dirty again!]

Penny for Your Thoughts

So it's been a while since I last posted. I feel like we haven't done much that is actually interesting/entertaining enough to blog about. And honestly, I don't have much for you today but maybe my random thoughts from last night (when I could NOT fall asleep) will entertain you...

*My neck is killing me. I kind of want to go to a chiropractor. I could get a massage every month for the price we are paying monthly for our gym membership...
*I really hope our house is done by the time we have to be moved out of our apartment. I am not looking forward to cleaning this apartment. Ugh. Atleast my mom will be here the week before to help! But I actually like packing. Maybe I will find something exciting that I forgot I had.
*Where am I going to hang my hand/dish towels in our new house? I want to put "decorative" towels on the oven handle thing...but then I have nowhere to hang my "usable" ones. Kory will probably go and use the decorative ones every time anyway. Maybe I can find a cute hook or something. (Definitely looked online for some today... I am very much liking these!)

*I am excited for that movie to come out this weekend. (NO - not New Moon.) The Blind Side. Maybe Kory will take me to see it since he doesn't have to work this Friday night. (It's his first Friday night off in several weeks!)
*In-N-Out is opening in Provo this weekend. I'm not even from California but I started craving it today. I've heard Five Guys Burgers is similar to In-N-Out. Maybe we can eat there before we go to the movie.
*I should really start working on my Relief Society lesson. It's my last lesson before we move! I wonder what my new calling will be. I don't even know what calling I 'd pick even if I could. What am I going to wear on Sunday?
*Why did I buy that skirt today? I go to the mall looking for a jacket and come home with a jacket AND a skirt. I didn't need that skirt. But it's cute and it's a jean skirt so I think I will wear it enough to get my money's worth. I always feel guilty spending money on just myself. Kory never gets mad at me for spending money, but still. It's kind of Kory's fault...He left my jacket on the cruise ship, which is why I had to go to the mall to get a new one in the first place.
*There's a big craft fair at the High School on Saturday. Maybe I will find something cute. Maybe I shouldn't go, cause I just bought myself that skirt.
*Why haven't I heard back about that job?? The guy that interviewed me told me that I was one of their top two candidates! So frustrating. I guess I was the lesser of the "top two."
*I wonder what I am going to be in charge of for Thanksgiving this year. Kory always brags about my cooking to his family...why does he do that? I stress out every time I have to cook something for them. Maybe I will volunteer to bring butternut squash. That is "Thanksgiving-ey" and I haven't had that in forever. Except...I've never even made that before.
*I should really wipe down the inside of our microwave. I haven't done that in a while.
*Mmm...I am hungry. I'm totally craving white hot chocolate and congo bars (peanut butter rice krispie treat things).
*Why does Kory fall asleep so fast? I can not get comfortable. My neck still hurts. We need new pillows. At least I just washed the sheets. They smell good!

...and I think I fell asleep soon after that. Instead of counting sheep I count Kory's light snores! HAHA True story.

What's been on your mind lately??

Halloween

We had a super fun Halloween party with Kory's family on Friday night. They definitely go all out. We had tons of yummy food and played some Fear Factor-like games.
[If I knew how to do a photo collage I would...but instead you get to see a lot of "big" pictures.]

Find the gummy worm in the diaper. Staci was not amused.

Kory pulling marbles out of ice water...with his toes.

Nicole and Michael transferring "dog food"
[with their mouths] from one dish to another.

Digging through a nasty pumpkin, looking for "eyeballs."
[I started gagging after this picture was taken.]

Did I mention we won "Best Costumes" of the night?!!

Thought Provoking

FALL BACK tonight at 2 a.m.

Being from Arizona [where we NEVER "change times"] I still get a little excited for daylight savings time to begin and end! Although I really don't completely understand the point of it and I always get really confused when I start talking about it/trying to explain it to myself .

My mom sent me this quote to help me "get it"...

When told the reason for daylight saving time the Old Indian said, "Only the government would believe that you could cut a foot off the top of a blanket, sew it on the bottom, and have a longer blanket!"

Change...

Change is our only constant.

Kory started a new job on Monday. He got a job at the jail as a Deputy Sheriff. He'll be training for the next few weeks, then he'll start "for real" which means 12 hour shift-work. Sometimes it will be 12 hour days, sometimes it will be 12 hour nights. This will definitely take some adjusting and getting used to for both of us. But it will be a great job, with benefits and lead to many opportunities in the years to come!

Also, because he got this job we will...
[fingers crossed...this "announcement" is still a bit premature]
be getting into THIS house by the end of the year!

[picture taken end of August]

[picture taken last week]

Kory, his dad and brother have been building this "spec house" over the summer. Now we are referring to it as "our house" and have been able to help decide on paint colors, cabinets, wood floor, etc. It has been fun watching the entire process and it will be even more fun when it becomes our house! More pictures and details soon.

A [who.what.when.where.why.how.] Update

Who had a birthday? Kory turned 25!! We celebrated 3 times; once with my family (Japanese food in Utah), once with his family (at his favorite steak house) and also with his friends (cake at our apt). Yes, he had to light his own candles but I did make the cake!

What
did we get to do in Park City? The Alpine coaster and Zip Line! It was so fun spending the day there with my family!

When did Kory start bragging about his hearing? Last week after he got a physical and the nurse and doctor were BOTH "amazed" by his hearing abilities. The gave him the test twice just to confirm because they have never seen anyone with such good hearing. The told him he can actually hear "zero." Whatever that means?!? My opinion on the matter...he has perfect selective hearing!

Where did we get drenched with rain? Oh just walking to General Conference. But we still enjoyed every second in the Conference Center on Sunday morning. President Eyring gave my favorite talk! Who gave yours?

Why is Halloween so popular in Idaho? My mom was telling me that a couple just moved into our home ward from Idaho and they were put in the activities committee. Their first activity is the Ward Halloween Party and they are SO excited to plan it. They have some big ideas. Seriously! I'm sorry, but I kind of like grew out of Halloween. (Anyone else...or am I just totally lame?) Unfortunately, I live in Idaho now so it has to become a part of me again. HELP! I have to dress up...ideas please!?? We're also in charge of a Halloween party game so if have any, let me know!

How did Kory's hunt go? Well he shot...TWO...trees. OK, but really cut him some slack because he was bow hunting so it is quite challenging. But rifle season is now open and he is also going to go out muzzle loader hunting later this season. I'll keep you posted...

Home Sweet Home

I got to go to Mesa for the last few days [While Kory was hunting]! I hadn't been home since JANUARY! Can you believe that?! I definitely miss Arizona...all 107 degrees of it! Here are a few highlights from my trip...

*Surprising my dad and brothers. They didn't know I was coming and all had to do a double-take when they saw me. Scott immediately wanted to know where Kory was...sorry to disappoint.
*FOOD FOOD FOOD! Someburros with the Allens', Pei Wei with Angela, Sweet Cakes with my mom, Serranos salsa and bean dip, Sunday dinner with grandparents and aunt Marki
*Watching Jason's intramural basketball game
*Getting to drive "Scott's" car...he didn't even complain about not being able to drive it to school. Pretty sure he did not get that from me.
*Shopping with my mom - so happy I found a pair of jeans
*Being up at the cabin with lots of family
*Going to my home ward

Thanks mom for flying me home!
